We look forward to you being part of the 30th Annual Historic Route 66 Fun Run®! More than 800 vehicles are expected to join in the weekend’s activities which start with the excitement of traveling the 140-mile trip between Seligman and Topock/Golden Shores, and continue with events planned in most every community along the way.
This annual fundraiser started in early 1987 when 15 individuals embarked on an ambitious journey to lead the rebirth of Route 66 by forming the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona. It quickly became clear that they needed to find creative ways to raise money to fund all the work ahead of them, and from this need the idea for the Annual Historic Route 66 Fun Run® was born.
That following spring (April 1988) the first Annual Historic Route 66 Fun Run® attracted an amazing 152 entrants! The Governor of Arizona, Rose Mofford, cut the ribbon, Will Rogers, Jr., was the first Grand Marshal, and the Delgadillo’s Band headlined the event. The planning couldn’t have been more perfect, except for the April showers, sleet, and SNOW!
Rain or shine the continued success of this event is staying true to what made the first Fun Run® work… creating a relaxing, fun-packed weekend of camaraderie, cars, and the celebration of an American icon… Route 66. Once again we are expecting participants and attendees from all over the world along with just about any vehicle on wheels.
Be sure to check out each of the website’s Fun Run categories, including the Schedule of Events, so you don’t miss a bit of the fun from Seligman to Topock. Then be sure to stop into the Powerhouse Gift Shop in Kingman for your special mementos to remember this great weekend. Enjoy the Fun Run, and we hope to see you back again next year!
